The World March for Peace and Non-violence
The following initiatives are being organised. This is a work in progress, we'll give details of events as they become confirmed. Please feel free to add your event via email.
Dover to Southampton flotilla down the south cost in 7 stretches: World Court Project and Abolition 200-Mayors for Peace: Abolitions flame of freedom will be taken by the flotilla and go to the NY Non Proliferation Treaty Review in May 2010
Scotland Faslane Peace Camp Event
Glasgow University: Event TBA.
Edinburgh: Participarion in Spirituality and Peace Festival August 9 to 30.
Kilkenny-Ireland: Living Peace sign and festival
Belfast: Mairead Corrigan from Peace People and Nobel Peace Plaureate has endorsed the March.
North Yorkshire: Actions planned for Fylingdales and Menwith Hill Bases by CAAB and Yorkshire CND
Leeds, Forum re disabilities and dehumanisation at the University, and Tango for Peace evening.
Aldermaston: Actions being discussed by Trident Ploughshares
South Wales: Bridgend College preparing Peace signs and contact with Schools re organising events
Southampton: Events (may be a march)
London: Esforal (school of Latin American culture nr Euston Station) Planning a Peace Sign for Oct 3rd with ample invitation
Concert of Latin American (and other) Music being discussed (The Centre of Cultures and World Without Wars)
Schools: A plan to link the World March with the Citizenship curriculum has been sent round schools in Brent
August 6-9 Hiroshima/Nagasaki Days: Preparation of an event to launch the March.
Sep 21st International Peace Day events.
Attend Festivals to inform about the March: Leamington June 13, Glastonbury June 24-28, Leeds, Reading and Notting Hill Festivals all same w/e (August Bank Holiday)
Edinburgh Spirituality and Peace Festival August 9 to 30, Carnival Latino June 20, Carnaval del Pueblo, South London, August 2
Participate in Arms Fair in September, CAAT organises Stop Week - 14-21 June
Oct 2nd Peace Symbols, Forums, etc: Official start od the March all over the world and start of the "symbolic journey" in Wellington, Competition of symbols done by students, study what they mean, take a picture, and upload to the website. Followed by an exhibition of Peace Symbols.
