The Experience of Peace

To be read by the support member or recorded before the meeting. Make a pause of about 10 seconds wherever you see an asterisk. This is an experience of deep relaxation we can use when we feel troubled or in preparation for humanist activities. The correct body posture for this experience is sitting on a chair with the back straight.

We begin our work wishing everyone peace, force and joy. 

Let us set aside all our present concerns, loosening our bodies, hearts and minds. 

 Close your eyes... 

Now begin to loosen your body, traveling downwards step by step.   

Begin from your head and descend through your shoulders, feeling each part. Continue toward your arms, downwards still, until you feel your hands loosen while you relax them. 

Feel each muscle of your face. Relax your expression and slip down your neck towards your chest. Loosen your chest slowly, traveling down until you reach the end of your trunk. 

Do not forget to lighten your back. Remove from it all weight while you go down your spine until you reach your legs, ending in your feet. 

Observe how you have removed from your body all heavy loads, all pain. 

 Calm your heart. Gently come closer to your heart. From within your head, allow yourself to fall confidently inside your neck toward the chest. Slip lower still, until the end of your trunk. Feel your emotions getting calmer and your heart opening up to them peacefully, without fear. 

 Quiet your mind. Listen to the work of your mind within your head. Hear the murmur of your own thoughts, and silence your mind. Remove from your head everything that is not the here and now and recognize calmness within you.

 Pay attention to this state for a while and understand that it is only the beginning of a state that you will be able to make grow within you, if you resolve with faith to overcome suffering.

  Completely relax your body and quiet your mind. (*) 

  Then imagine a transparent and luminous sphere that descends from above until it rests in you heart. 

Pay attention to the sensation of your chest, without fear, without restlessness. (*) 

  You will recognize that the sphere begins to transform itself into an expanding sensation within your chest. (*) 

  Let the sensation of the sphere expand toward the outside of the body as you let your emotions and your whole being follow it. Feel the joy stirring within your heart. (*) 

 The guide sits down and allows about ten minutes to elapse.

 Carry peace within you, and carry it to others. (*)
