Themes for Personal reflection:

Personal Change as a function of Social Transformation

When the human being, rather than money or power, is the main value it is possible to work both for personal development and for social transformation.

Here are some tools for personal work that the Humanist Movement makes available to meditate either individually or to discuss with other people in weekly meetings or special seminars in order to strengthen ourselves in our task to create a non-violent society:

 1. About Weekly Meetings

General Presentation

The weekly meeting is the central point of the activities of the Humanist Movement. It is a moment of reference where humanism is expressed first of all in the attitudes of the participants. The joyful and confidential atmosphere facilitates the double objective of the weekly meeting: to carry out one hour personal work and to organize the activities of the team.

The weekly meetings are done everywhere supported by official materials that summarize the thought of New Humanism1. These texts give orientation to all social action of all Humanists and invite each one to discover or to reinforce the meaning of each one's life.

The spirit of New Humanism that manifests each week in thousands of meetings around the planet is summarized in a double proposal: To think, feel and act in the same direction, and to treat others as you would have them treat you.

For whom IS the weekly meeting?

For every person who is already informed about and agrees with the project of New Humanism. We therefore invite friends, relatives, neighbours, comrades from work and school, etc.

Preparation of the weekly meeting

The weekly meeting should be prepared jointly between the orientator, administrative and support in their nucleus meeting (which therefore should also take place every week).

The orientator points out the general orientation of the Humanist Movement, the priorities of the moment, the strategy and the calendar of its council, etc. Having a global vision of the team, the orienter's role consists primarily in the growth of humanist actions and to take care that there is good structuring in order to carry out these actions.

The administrative has the opportunity at the weekly meeting to collect and distribute information and materials (from other countries, other councils, other teams). In agreement with the orienter, the administrative defines, prepares and coordinates the organization of the member cards (of the structure and the adherents) and the semester fees.

The support - in agreement with the orienter - prepares and guides the personal work of the weekly meeting. The support can clarify the people on the topics of New Humanism and the meaning of the action which the team is carrying forward, and he also organizes the calendar for Gatherings I and II.

Development of the weekly meeting

1. Welcoming the participants and opening of the meeting (according to the preferences of each team this can be a common song, a dance, a game or simply a short presentation of what is a weekly meeting of the Humanist Movement).
2. 1st part: present and do personal work.
3. 2nd part: organization of the activities and calendar.

1st Part of the meeting: Personal Work

The Support, in agreement with the orientator, prepares and guides the personal work part of the weekly meeting, which should not exceed 45 minutes. The following are examples of personal work to be carried out in the weekly meeting.
